Blood Drive

Hello Chamberlin Family and Friends! Here is some information from our friends at South Burlington High School who are organizing a life saving Blood Drive:

Well folks, it’s January so you know what that means………. South Burlington's 7th Annual BEST EVER Community Blood Drive is back! The blood drive will be held at the St. John Vianney Parish Center on January 24th, 2017 from 12 pm to 6 pm. This year, our theme for the event is inspired by the children's board game "Candyland" so there will be colorful decorations and treats galore! Not only that, but we will also be holding a raffle at each hour to give out prizes donated by local businesses. In addition to supporting Vermont's growing need for blood donations, drive will also act to raise awareness about how valuable blood donations are to cancer patients and others. Wondering more about why to donate? Check out our handy top five reasons below! If you want to support a great cause and have the chance to win some cool stuff, the blood drive is the perfect place for you! If you are a frequent donor, please make note that in order to participate in the drive, you should not have donated after November 29th (double red date = October 4th). If you have any more questions regarding donor eligibility, please contact the American Red Cross at http://www.redcrossblood.org/ or if you have questions about the event itself, please feel free to contact the Red Rebel Committee at redrebels2017@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!

To sign-up, please visit this link: SB's BEST EVER Community Blood Drive Sign Up

TOP FIVE REASONS TO DONATE BLOOD:
1. Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day in the U.S. including nearly 7,000 units of platelets and 10,000 units of plasma are needed daily in the U.S.

2. Blood transfusions are needed for women with complications of pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies and haemorrhage before, during or after childbirth, children with severe anaemia often resulting from malaria people with severe trauma following man-made and natural disasters, and so much more.

3. Regular blood donations are in high demand because safe, healthy blood can only be held for a limited time before use.

4. When you donate, you receive a mini-check where you will learn valuable information like your pulse, blood pressure, body temperature, and hemoglobin.

5. Although an estimated 38% of the United States population is eligible to donate blood at any given time, less than 10% of that population actually do each year.
